The moral law - from Jesus’ perspective

Many people today, including criminals are ‘allergic’ to any legislation that is ‘imposed’ on them and breaking laws, try to justify themselves in various ways, on the ground of very personal criteria. Others are extremely zealous in complying with all these laws in the belief that lawbreakers are somehow outside decent society and must be punished. The Lord Jesus Christ, however, did not take the side of either. The biblical text brought to our attention today (Matthew 5:17-20) tells us about the way Jesus sees the law to which God has subjected humans, indicating the manner in which He has fulfilled and authoritatively intends it to be.
