Performing everything according to the law of the Lord

In every age and nation, rituals and ceremonies mark the most important moments of individual and their social life. Even civil rites and ceremonies are not only celebrations but religious, because they reveal the need for transcendence. In this Sunday’s biblical text, we find Mary and Joseph taking Jesus, as a child, to the Temple for the ritual presentation. They do it not so much for "tradition". They understand its meaning, therefore fulfilling diligently all the requirements of the Law of the Lord. Scripture testifies that they were diligent about not only the ceremonial law, but also about the moral one. It is in this diligent family that Jesus grows. He will later say "Do not think that I have come to abolish the law or the prophets. I have not come to abolish these things but to fulfill them". So, let's explore some of the teachings of Luke 2:22-40.
