The Baptism of Jesus: to what end?

The style of God’s work in and through Jesus Christ is designing carefully and performing diligently, work in an orderly and methodical way, with commitment, dedication, self-sacrifice and perseverance leading to the final accomplishment. This is the "style" of God’s work to to steadily restore order into a world, ruined and lost, by the disorder of sin.

The baptism of Jesus by John in the Jordan river (the subject of the Bible study today) was a unique event which marked the complete identification of Jesus with the repentant sinners that He came to save, His firm commitment on their behalf and the full approval of God that He would guarantee is by the powerful efficacy of the Holy Spirit. Can His disciples possibly not follow the same path?
